Newsweek reporter Aleks Phillips interviewed Dr. Razmi after receiving and reviewing the book. This article discusses the potential of artificial intelligence for health and healthcare. While reviewing some of the most promising use cases, Dr. Razmi emphasizes that there are significant obstacles to the adoption of AI in healthcare and it will take decades before we can enjoy the full benefits of this technology for health. However, we will start seeing benefits for more immediate use cases such as diagnostics in radiology, easing documentation burden for healthcare staff, and assisting patients in navigating their healthcare experience.
In the long-term, AI will help us discover the complex relationships between our genes, proteins, microbiome, and other biological entities and our health. This will allow us to proactively manage our health and avoid or minimize disease. To get there, we will need to take certain actions such as unifying medical data for each person and streamlining regulation and oversight of this technology.
