Dr. Razmi interviewed with Ruth Reader of Politico about the many barriers to adoption of AI in healthcare. While the long-term benefits will be enormous, the short-term barriers that include business, clinical, and technical will need to be successfully navigated to gain adoption. Constrained budgets, high cost of the large language models, and the need to prioritize mission-critical technologies make the cost of buying and implementing AI one of the key issues in these early days. Organizations will need better tools and frameworks they can use in evaluating AI solutions and make the right decisions for their businesses.
From the article:
How do you think we can ensure AI is safe?
Insurance companies are saying they’re not going to pay for something unless you’ve shown that it improves patient outcomes and it’s safe. You have to be able to say, “I did a multicenter trial where this algorithm was taken into the real world, and this is how much it improved diagnosis.”
