In this piece written by Zoi Capital Managing Director, Dr. Ron Razmi, writes about the future of jobs and whether AI will be a job creator or job killer. He writes about technologies in history that automated vast number of jobs but at the end, we’ve always ended up with more jobs than what we started out with. Examples include mechanization of farming, automation of the telecom industry, and the modernization of mobility. While many jobs were automated, new technologies have always been net job creators and overal employment has continued to grow over the years, decades, and centuries. Bottom line: We won’t run out of things to do!
From the Article:
“While no one has a crystal ball, history usually holds valuable lessons we can apply to the future. After all, there was a time when more than 90% of the U.S. population worked in farming. Today, only 1.2% of Americans work on farms, but we aren’t suffering from an 89% unemployment rate! Why? Because the nature of jobs always changes over time, and while old jobs disappear, newer ones are constantly being created”
“The World Economic Forum’s 2025 Future of Jobs report estimates that drivers such as technological change, demographic shifts, and geoeconomic transition will result in a net employment gain of 78 million jobs by 2030.”
