In my latest article for the Fast Company Executive Board, I discuss an exciting new dynamics observed in certain AI-native companies. These are companies that are usually formed in the last couple of years and are using AI to set up every aspect of the company. This includes product development, administrative functions, and interestingly, commercial functions. Taking advantage of the latest capabilities of AI such as generative AI and Agentic AI, productivity gains can be massive. Certain startups are reaching milestones in less than 3 years that they used to reach in 6-7 years. Revenue growth observed in companies that dial up agents that can do marketing and sales 24/7 can be eye popping. There are companies that are trying to reach billion dollar valuations with less than 10 people.
From the article:
“If AI agents start taking over activities from humans, sometimes even fully automating end-to-end workflows, how will that impact our productivity and output? After all, total production is the amount of production per hour times the number of hours. If AI agents can produce on their own or assist us in producing more, we should see increased production across industries and in total (e.g. higher GDP).”
“AI businesses are rapidly developing new ways to monetize their products. For example, SaaS businesses historically have charged licensing fees based on the number of users, devices, seats, etc. However, AI has the ability to independently complete activities and thus increasingly tap into company services budgets. These budgets are traditionally much larger than technology budgets. If pricing is based on usage or output, they can generate significantly larger revenues.”
